Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I want to qualify for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) Certificate?
Qualifying for the Disability Tax Credit can mean literally hundreds of thousands of dollars for a person's future. In addition to the possibility of a substantial refund from the Federal Government of Canada (up to $40,000), there are yearly benefits and credits totalling thousands of dollars more.
People aged 49 or under who qualify for the DTC can also open a very special registered account called the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP). Opening your account may qualify you for up to $20,000 in Canada Disability Savings Bonds (free money) and up to $70,000 in Canada Disability Savings Grants (up to a 3-to-1 government matching program). Over time, your account can grow to a significant amount of money for your and your family's future.

How does the DTC Application Assistance Program work?
The program is designed to give you the best chance of qualifying. There are two parts to the application:
Part A is information about the person living with the impairment and, if applicable, the family member who supports them.
Part B is about how the impairment affects the daily activities of the person living with it.
The value of the program is in Part B. Most medical professionals complete only a handful of these applications each year, and because it is a tax form for the CRA and not a medical form, important information can be left out that makes the difference between approval and denial.
You answer plain-language questions, and we complete the application from your answers, using the precise wording the CRA requires. Your medical professional reviews it, changes anything they need to, and signs it. While this does not guarantee approval, it certainly improves your chances.
What happens if I do not qualify for the DTC?
Send us the CRA's letter. We help you and your medical professional appeal the CRA's decision, at no charge.
If, after the appeal, you still do not qualify, we refund the $49 fee you paid for our assistance.

How much does it cost, and when do I pay?
One flat fee of $49, paid before you download the completed application. We do not take a percentage of your refund or benefits.
Some medical professionals charge a fee to complete and sign the form. That fee is separate from ours and is paid to them.
Which medical professionals can sign?
A medical doctor or nurse practitioner can sign for every area. Others can sign for the areas they treat: an optometrist for vision, a speech-language pathologist for speaking, an audiologist for hearing, an occupational therapist for walking, feeding and dressing, a physiotherapist for walking, and a psychologist for mental functions.
Do you need my social insurance number?
No. We never ask for it. You write it on the printed form, where it is highlighted in yellow.
Is my information private?
Your answers stay on your device, and the completed form is created in your browser. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card number.
How long does it take?
You can save and finish later. Once the CRA receives the signed form, it usually mails its decision within about 8 weeks.
How do I send the application to the CRA?
By mail, to the tax centre for your province. We give you the address with your download. Keep a copy for your records.
Can the CRA adjust my past tax returns?
Yes. If you ask on the form, the CRA can apply the credit to up to 10 previous years once the person is approved. That is where the refund for past years comes from.
What if the CRA asks me to requalify?
If we prepared your original application, we prepare the new one at no additional charge.
We complete the application for you.
You keep ALL of your benefits.
If you are not approved after an appeal, we refund 100% of your fee.
